David Gemelli Passes

Dec 14 2018

We regret to inform you of the passing of David J Gemelli, former President of Gem Gravure, a true industry stalwart and promoter of not only his company but also wire and cable manufacturing.

An army veteran, Gemelli was as fierce a competitor as he was dedicated to fairness, good ethics, and mentoring all.   He succeeded Gem's founder, his father, Joseph, in 1976, to continue the company's ongoing commitment to growth and innovation.    Under his direction, the company became an industry leader by earning such accomplishments as the introduction of high speed Teflon bandmarking, receiving annual awards as top OEM from Domino Inkjet, and receiving "The Flame" award from Lucent Technologies for the development of patented products.

In addition, Gemelli's industry support was extensive.   He was a recipient of the Wire & Cable Manufacturers' Alliance Distinguished Career Award in 1999 and the Wire Association's Donnellan Award after many years of service to that organization.  After his key contributions to the Electrical Management Commitee, he held senior level positions at WAI including  Executive Committee Liason, Fiber Optics and Electrical Committes; 1982 Hartford Nonferrous/Electrical Meeting Chairman; 1990 Executive Director Search Committee; Executive Committee 1991-1995; Second Vice President, First Vice President, then President in1994.   During his Presidency, Gemelli was recognized for creating an Exhibitors Board which successfully settled a dispute among exhibitors prior to the 1995 Interwire show.

Gemelli leaves his wife Carol, daughter Beth, as well as the leadership of third generation Gem Gravure to sons Paul Gemelli, Executive Vice President, and Brian.
