Young Professionals Group -Young Professional of the Year Award

In December 2019, WCMA established a Young Executives and Emerging Professionals program to provide networking, mentorship opportunities, and educational offerings for future leaders and early career industry individuals, ages 25-40 years old.

Mission Statement:

Provide a forum for early career and high-potential professionals to discuss the necessary skills, strategies, and psychology to be a leader in the wire & cable industry.

Key Topics This Group Will Develop:

  • Differentiation as a leader in Wire & Cable requires a cross-functional understanding of your organization, vendors, and customers i.e. operations, product knowledge, market knowledge, and business administration. Plot a path to achieve this.
  • Wire & Cable requires product knowledge in all functions of the organization. Learn how best to learn about the products your company makes and how the customer views them.
  • The Wire & Cable Industry has longevity and is central to our technological future i.e. industrial automation, AI, a changing power grid, and data storage/security. Participate in this vital industry.
  • Sustainability & recycling will be central to the industry's future as resources become more limited. Connecting cable design, business strategy, and operations with sustainability is an advantage to Wire & Cable companies.

Young Professional of the Year Award

In 2023, the Organization established and awarded the first WCMA Young Professional of the Year Award.

Each year, WCMA will complete a nomination and review process, and the Board will select an outstanding Young Professional of the Year. Nominations are received by Member companies during the first half of the year for candidates 40 or under from Member companies with 5-10 years of experience and a commitment to the industry. The Award will be presented at the WCMA Annual Meeting, which takes place in early December. Candidates from the Wire and Cable manufacturing segment will be prioritized, but WCMA may choose to recognize an outstanding individual from an industry supplier company.

The Nomination form itself provides more details about the Award criteria.
